A grand cru made in single-digit barrels. Benjamin Leroux spent fifteen vintages running Domaine du Comte Armand in Pommard before launching his own micro-negociant operation in Beaune in 2007, and the scale never really changed - most of his cuvees run to just a few barrels each. This Echezeaux comes from a parcel of about 0.15 hectares in Vignes Blanches, the corner of the grand cru that leans toward Vosne-Romanee, and the wine leans that way too: red fruit and spice rather than muscle. The 2015 growing season was warm and generous across the Cote de Nuits, but Leroux is a restraint guy, and this is built on firm tannin and clarity instead of sheer weight. A decade past the harvest, it is beginning to open up. Give it a decant and don't rush it.
