Desire Lines, Evangelho Vineyard Carignan, 2021

Desire Lines, Evangelho Vineyard Carignan, 2021

Same legendary vineyard, different season. Desire Lines draws this Carignan from the own-rooted, 1890s-planted vines at Evangelho in Contra Costa County, where over thirty feet of pure sand and Delta winds produce a red with silky, fine-grained tannins and irrepressible perfume. Cody and Emily Rasmussen ferment with a portion of whole cluster and carbonic, blending in a bit of Mourvedre, in a style inspired by the great cru Beaujolais. The 2021 hails from a more classic, balanced vintage - bright, energetic, with crunchy red fruit and a little more tension than the warmer 2019. Chill it lightly and pour generously.
