Forthave's Brooklyn distillery made this with the Goethe-Institut New York and the Nigerian-born, Berlin-based artist Emeka Ogboh, for his multisensory exhibition on migration and city life. Each of the seven botanicals traces a migration stream that shaped the city: North American wild mint, European juniper, African grains of paradise, and on down the line. The concept is genuinely interesting, but more to the point, the gin is genuinely good. Every botanical was picked for what it actually contributes rather than what it symbolizes, and the result is clean, modern and aromatic. It holds its shape in a martini; in a G&T the mint and grains of paradise step forward. A limited New York edition, so when it goes, it goes.
