Le Pergole Torte is the wine that started a revolution. When Montevertine walked away from the Chianti Classico appellation in 1981 rather than blend in the white grapes the rules then required, this 100% Sangiovese bottling from a single vineyard in Radda became one of the world's most celebrated wines of terroir, albeit as a humble IGT. Radda, Chianti's highest-elevation village, gives wines of bright red-berry fruit and aromatic lift, and this is its purest expression. The 2013 was a cool, classic vintage built for the long haul, and at over a decade old it's beginning to show its mature side while still having plenty of life ahead.
