Cristom, Pinot Noir "Louise", 2023
Of Cristom's four "estate family" single-vineyard Pinots, Louise is the gentlest and most generous in personality — named for Paul Gerrie's maternal grandmother. It's also, fittingly, the first vineyard the family ever planted on the Eola-Amity property, going in the ground in 1993. The block sits lower on the slope, between roughly 290 and 440 feet, with an upper section on deep Jory basalt and a lower portion on Missoula Flood silts and sedimentary rock. That geological split shows in the glass: classic basalt-driven Pinot perfume framed by a softer, more sediment-fed mid-palate. Steve Doerner's whole-cluster house style holds it all together. The 2023 is approachable but serious, the most welcoming of the estate quartet.
