Emmanuel Rouget, Nuits-Saint-Georges, 2023

Emmanuel Rouget, Nuits-Saint-Georges, 2023

Nuits-Saint-Georges from Emmanuel Rouget is the burly, brooding counterpart to his more perfumed Vosne offerings. The domaine - founded by Emmanuel in 1985 and now run by his sons Nicolas and Guillaume - has long sourced from Aux Lavieres, a small parcel in the northern (Vosne-facing) part of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. Emmanuel learned everything from his uncle Henri Jayer starting in 1976, and the Jayer fingerprints are all over the wine: low yields, full destemming, cool pre-ferment maceration, judicious oak. The 2023 shows Nuits at its classic best - that gamey, structured, earthy density the appellation is known for, executed with the precision Rouget brings to every cuvee. Built to evolve over a decade or more. Decant or carafe in youth.
