Feudo Montoni, Nero D'Avola Vrucara MW Organic, 2020

Feudo Montoni, Nero D'Avola Vrucara MW Organic, 2020

This is Nero d'Avola like almost no other: own-rooted, pre-phylloxera vines high in Sicily's central hills, the ancestral heart of Fabio Sireci's Feudo Montoni estate. Vrucara comes from a single organically farmed parcel of clay and sand, fermented in cement with native yeasts and given a long, patient rest before release. Where the 2019 leans structured and firm, the 2020 is the plusher, rounder sibling, all velvet and ripe red fruit with soft, well-knit tannins. It's the more immediately generous of the two, drinking beautifully now while still holding plenty in reserve. A serious, saline, deeply Sicilian red that rewards curiosity.
