Tellus Vinea, Vignobles Pueyo Bordeaux, 2022

Bordeaux without the costume. The Pueyo family have been farming on the Right Bank since the end of the 19th century, spread across Libourne, Saint-Emilion, Lugon and Mouliets-Villemartin, and they have been certified organic since 2013, with biodynamic practices layered in since 2017. Tellus Vinea is their red: Merlot-led with a little Cabernet Franc for structure, from vines that sit up against the Lalande-de-Pomerol boundary. It is raised in stainless steel and cement rather than barrel, so there is no oak makeup covering anything up - just plum, cassis and a graphite edge, with tannins that stay out of the way. A serious weeknight red from a warm, ripe 2022.
