Tsikrikonis, Assyrtiko, 2025
Assyrtiko from outside Santorini is having a moment, and Tsikrikonis is one of the most exciting names making the case. The family farms 120 acres at the foot of Mount Symbolo in Kavala (Northern Greece), with vines just a kilometer from the Aegean and planted between 200 and 400 meters — high enough for crackling acidity, close enough to the sea for that signature saline edge. Vassilis Tsikrikonis represents the second generation, and his Assyrtiko shows what the grape can do when it travels north: the structure and minerality are still there, but with a touch more orchard fruit and a softer aromatic frame than the volcanic versions. A fresh, current-release white that punches well above its weight.
