Walter Scott, Pinot Noir La Combe Verte, 2024
Walter Scott's wonderful Willamette Pinot Noir. Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon's Eola-Amity-based label has quietly become one of Oregon's quiet pillars — Burgundian in sensibility, Pinot and Chardonnay only. La Combe Verte ("the green valley") is their multi-vineyard Willamette Valley appellation blend, drawing volcanic-soil fruit from Distraction, Sojeau, Temperance Hill and Witness Tree in the Eola-Amity Hills and blending it with old-vine Pinot from the marine-sedimentary slopes of Freedom Hill. Fermented with ambient yeast, aged 10 months in French oak (about a quarter new). 13.5%. The result captures Walter Scott's signature on a Willamette scale: bright red and dark fruit, floral lift, fine-grained structure, and that balance of power and grace they're known for.
