Billecart-Salmon, Champagne Extra Brut (250th Anniversary), 2018
This is a special one: a vintage Champagne Billecart-Salmon created exclusively for the American market, marking both the 250th anniversary of American independence and the 200th anniversary of the house itself. Unlike the non-vintage cuvees, this is a single-year wine from the excellent 2018 harvest, made entirely from Grand Cru and Premier Cru fruit: Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims for structure, Chardonnay from the Cote des Blancs for finesse. It spent more than five years aging on the lees before release and was finished as an Extra Brut, with a very low dosage that keeps it taut and mineral. A collector's bottle with the pedigree to back it up.
