Domaine Chamonard, Morgon Les Clos de Lys, 2013

Domaine Chamonard, Morgon Les Clos de Lys, 2013

Cru Beaujolais with a natural-wine soul. Domaine Chamonard farms in Morgon, and since founder Joseph Chamonard's passing the estate has been run by his daughter Genevieve and son-in-law Jean-Claude Chanudet, one of the original figures of the natural movement. Le Clos de Lys is hand-harvested Gamay, fermented partly carbonic with native yeasts, aged in old foudres and bottled unfiltered with little or no added sulfur. The 2013 has a decade-plus on it now and should be drinking in a mellow, savory place. A serious, age-worthy Morgon for fans of low-intervention Beaujolais.
