Domaine Chamonard, Morgon Les Clos de Lys, 2014

Domaine Chamonard, Morgon Les Clos de Lys, 2014

One of the grand fine natural wines of Beaujolais, made the old-fashioned way long before that was fashionable. Domaine Chamonard was founded by Joseph Chamonard, a Morgon original who farmed organically and made wine alongside friends Lapierre, Foillard, Breton, and Thevenet; today it's run by his daughter Genevieve and son-in-law Jean-Claude Chanudet. Clos de Lys comes from old massale-selected vines on Morgon's famous granite, fermented whole-cluster with native yeasts and aged in old wood, with no chemicals used in the vineyard or cellar. This back-vintage 2014 has had a decade to integrate, sitting in a lovely spot between fruit and the savory, secondary notes of maturity.
